A National Science Foundation grant funds the development, assessment and transferability of a university-wide minor in Effective Teamwork and Communication at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The minor addresses employers’ concerns about the deficiency of interprofessional skills in their new hires. Students learn about interprofessional skills in general education courses in Communications Media, Management, Psychology, Sociology, and Theater. Students apply these skills in Teamwork-Intensive courses (T-Courses) within their respective majors. T-Courses are designed to incorporate interdisciplinary research projects. Students participate in a senior-level capstone course that includes reflection on their interprofessional skills in an additional interdisciplinary research project.
