We are developing molecular imaging and chemoproteomics approaches to identify and study the underlying inorganic chemistry that governs the function of the brain as the center of consciousness. This talk will present our latest results in the discovery and understanding of transition metals as signaling elements and their influence on neural circuitry and the sympathetic nervous system, using copper as a canonical example. This concept expands the scope of bioinorganic chemistry beyond traditional static active sites for metabolism to dynamic allosteric sites for signaling.<br/>
