In 2015, the ACS’s Division of Chemical Education (DivCHED) and its Society Committee on Education (SOCED) formed a joint task force to consider pathways to creating and using performance expectations in general chemistry. The task force identified several steps that could be taken, including bringing together and supporting a community of practitioners from diverse institutions to consider how performance expectations could be implemented at their particular location. Their distributed efforts would support a better understanding of the issues and opportunities associated with performance expectations could be developed. This poster presents a report on  the initial work of this community, initiated through a workshop at the ACS in September 2016. The structure of the workshop, preliminary planning done at the workshop, and work by particular participants during the 2016-17 academic year will be presented.
