Many commonly used chemical probes are nonselective and/or of poor quality. The continued use of these probes poses a major problem in biomedical research - tens of thousands of publications each year use them to generate research of suspect conclusions, at great cost to the taxpayer and other funders, to scientific careers, and to the reliability of the scientific literature. We have launched a pre-competitive collaboration involving multiple pharma partners and the Chemical Probes Portal to make it easier for scientists to identify and source high quality chemical probes. The objectives of this collaboration are three-fold:<br/>We will collate multiple sources of well-curated, available probes and/or probe sets (e.g., company toolboxes, SGC (PKIS));<br/>We will consolidate probe annotations and create a one-stop shopping experience via the portal to help researchers who are looking for well-annotated probes;<br/>We will identify gaps in these available probe sets that we can address by pooling partner resources and, together, explore ways to fill these gaps.<br/>This talk will provide an update on this initiative.
