Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery with its high theoretical specific capacity of 1675 mAh/g has shown great potential as next generation battery systems. However, the dissolution of the intermediate polysulfide and detrimental shuttle effect result in the severe capacity degradation. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can act as a host material sulfur to suppress the polysulfide shuttle effect. Nevertheless, the low electrical conductivity of MOFs impedes the electron transfer within the cathode, resulting in low ratability and cyclability. Here, we demonstrate that a 2-dimensional Ni3(2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene)2 (Ni3(HITP)2 MOF can work as an excellent conductive host in Li-S battery, due to the high electrical conductivity, strong π-π interactions between 2D nanosheets and regular (1.5nm) nanopores along axial direction.
