We are working to identify a mechanism for the treatment of the diseases, cancer metastasis, HIV-AIDS and Parkinson’s Disease. We will use 3’-sialyl lactose-6’-phosphate bound to our new carbohydrate affinity column. We will attempt to bind proteins known to be important in various disease mechanisms. The proteins are vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and galectin 8 for cancer metastasis and cancer, gp 120, for HIV-AIDS, and Synuclein, for Parkinson’s Disease. We will use our current method for carbohydrate affinity columns. This current technology, unlike other known technologies, it does not require the reduction amination step with sodium cyano borohydride (NaCNBH<sub>4</sub>). This greatly simplifies this process. We monitor the binding with UV detection at 280 nm with a flow rate of 150 μL for 190 minutes on an amino column. We will remove the protein with the 3’-sailyl lactose-6’-phosphate to indicate specific binding.<br/>VEGF binding to this 3’-sialyl lactose-6’-phosphate column would indicate an angiogenesis mechanism.<br/>Other mechanisms for the HIV-AIDS and Parkinson’s Disease important proteins may be obtained in this manner.
