This research studies the removal of copper from solution in terms of the recovery of highly pure malachite (Cu2(OH)2CO3) pellets by a fluidized-bed homogeneous crystallization (FBHC) process. The experimental parameters included effluent pH, molar ratio of copper to carbonate, and copper surface loading were tested to obtain high total removal of copper (TR) and crystallization ratio (CR) of homogeneous malachite particles. Under optimal conditions, both TR and CR reached 99%. The malachite crystals were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and electron scanning microscopy (SEM). FBHC was able to treat concentrated copper (up to 1600 ppm) solution and minimize the production of sludge.
