Three-dimensionally high ordered macroporous (3DOM) 20wt% NiO-Al2O3 catalysts with the two-dimensionally mesoporous structure were synthesized using the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) colloidal crystal as hard template and polyethylene glycol (PEG400), the Pluronic P123 or Pluronic F127 as the surfactant. The multifunctional nanohybrid structure, highly order macropores interconnected by small pore windows, provided effective contact between the feed and catalysts. The structure properties of materials were associated closely with the nature of the surfactants. Using PEG400 as the single surfactant, the sample formed the 3DOM framework without mesoporous structure. However, high-quality bimodal pore structures catalysts were generated in the presence of suitable amounts of P123 or F127. The sample, using P123 and PEG400 as the surfactant, showed the best 3DOM macro/mesoporous multifunctional nanohybrid skeletons, higher surface area and the best catalytic performance and coking-resist properties for partial oxidation of methane (POM). For 3DOM 20wt% NiO-Al2O3 catalysts with P123 and PEG400 as the surfactant, CH4 conversion was 95% at 800 oC with a GHSV of 21.6 L/(h g) which may be attributed to its larger surface area, better nanovoid 3D structure, uniform pore sizes, high oxygen adspecies concentration and low-temperature reducibility.
