The world is experiencing unprecedented economic growth and increase in human population, thereby requiring more sustainable utilization of natural resources.  Plant nutrient recovery from anthropogenic waste streams, such as industrial, municipal or agricultural solid and liquid waste, is of major importance.  Our work is in recovering major and micronutrients, including N, P, S, Cu and Zn from various waste streams and combining them into enhanced efficiency fertilizers.  In particular, we utilize widely available minerals MgO and MgCO<sub>3</sub> to recover N and P from wastewater streams to yield slow release fertilizer struvite.  Further, we utilize diverse set of recycled sulfur feedstock, including gypsum and refinery sulfur, to obtain urea – inorganic acid adducts for improved nitrogen release fertilizers. Finally, we recover Zn and Cu from solid industrial waste to synthesize urea based fertilizers containing these micronutrients.  The corresponding liquid and solid product spectral properties, formation kinetics as well as phase diagrams are explored using XRD, Raman spectroscopy and solubility measurements.<br/>
