Dr. Sperling is one of early pioneers to research on multiphase polymer system.  His study on solution properties of cellulose ester polymer with professor Krigbaum and polymer physics researches with professor Tobolsky influenced his early career.  His insights on phase behavior of polymer system was one of guiding themes throughout his academic research programs, which have made fundamental contributions  to build a career to his students.<br/>Polyethylene has been used in a wide range of wire and cable applications, since it provides an excellent combination of mechanical, chemical, dielectric properties, and extrusion processability.  One of the most important factors affecting macroscopic physical properties of polyethylene is the microstructure of the polymer chain.  The advancements of polyethylene technologies on molecular synthesis and molecular control provide more options to design the polymer chain architecture with specific target properties across a broad spectrum of processes and applications. The dielectric performance of polymeric insulation system is one of important factors to sustain the reliability of the electrical components in electric power delivery system.   The morphological correlations of polyolefin system will be discussed in terms of dielectric breakdown behavior.<br/>
