Clean water is essential for any type of ecological existence on Earth. The persistence of human carelessness has led to an increase of heavy metals in everyday water sources. Lead, when exposed chronically, is known to cause many detrimental toxic effects to humans and animals. Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are ideal candidates for water purification due to their heterogeneity and modularity. Herein, select thiophene-containing MOFs have been identified to decrease the concentration of lead ions in water.
