Luminescent lanthanide complexes have many promising properties for bioimaging, including large pseudo-Stokes shifts, sharp emission peaks and long luminescent lifetimes. Of particular interest is the use of time-resolved luminescent microscopy to gate out cellular autofluorescence and light scattering, increasing signal to noise ratios over traditional organic dyes. In our efforts to develop new ligand systems for luminescent lanthanide bioprobes we have synthesized luminescent podand lanthanide complexes based on new poly-acac chelating ligands and are investigating them as potential bioimaging agents. The structural and spectroscopic characterization of these complexes will be presented as well as our efforts to apply them in time-resolved luminescence imaging in cancer cells. <br/>
