The oxidation of hydrocarbons using molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant is an important goal in the pursuit of green chemistry techniques. Recent work using NCN-pincer ligated [Ir]III complexes demonstrates direct catalytic aerobic oxidation of cyclic hydrocarbons to corresponding linear dicarboxylic acids. Reaction condition and catalyst optimization will be discussed.
