Enhancing energy transfer while limiting dissipation in molecular and nanoscale systems is an important challenge in the design of novel technological applications.  Here we address this important question from a theoretical perspective in representative models.  During the first part of our talk, we will present the results of recent investigations in plasmon-plamon energy transfer in the presence of molecular aggregates. In particular, we will discuss the response of the system in the linear regime in terms of the rate of local heating, describing the effect of molecular dephasing and relaxation on the lineshape of the composite system in detail. In the second part, we will consider the problem of energy distribution and dissipation in models for a molecule adsorbed on a metal and under a time-dependent perturbation. When the molecule is strongly coupled to the metal and the driving rate is relatively slow, we find a consistent thermodynamic as well as kinetic representations. Moreover, we are able to identify the terms in the energy balance that contribute to the global dissipation.
