N-heterocyclic carbene complexes have seen widespread application in catalysis.  We wish to explore the utility of palladium variants toward regioselective C-H activation.  By functionalizing our carebene ligands with an appropriately shaped "tether" we can direct substrate reactivity to a specific C-H bond through a molecular recognition strategy.  Herein we report the synthesis and characterization of a set of palladium NHC complexes featuring this tether.  Full characterization and reactivity studies are presented.  Computational investigation of conformations with "docked" subtrates have also been performed and will be reported on.
