A water soluble mononuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu(O2CC(C6H5)3)(C8H10N2)(H2O)](ClO4), was synthesized and employed as a catalyst in the oxidation of primary (cinnamyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, cyclohexanol, 1-heptanol) and secondry alcohols (1-phenyl ethanol, 3-pentanol and 2-octanol) to corresponding aldehydes, ketones and acids with H2O2 at 70 oC in water without any additive.
