A series of rhenium tricarbonyl complexes coordinated by asymmetric diimine ligands containing a quinoline moiety bound to an oxazole ring were synthesized, structurally and electrochemically characterized, and screened for CO2 reduction ability. We compare these results to those we recently reported on a closely related family of complexes in which we observed a dependence of the turnover frequencies on the solvent donor number that indicated a C-O bond cleavage rate-determining step.
