Research efforts on the natural product UK-2A led to the development of fenpicoxamid, trademarked by Dow AgroSciences as Inatreq™ active, for disease control on cereals and bananas. Subsequent structure-activity relationship investigations on the bislactone of the natural product led to the discovery of a macrocyclic compound possessing chemical and biological properties unique to this class of chemistry. Details on the synthesis and attributes of this novel compound will be reviewed.
