Tetrazoles have been a subject of investigation since Bladin first prepared them in 1885. They exhibit interesting chemical and biological activity due to spatial and acidic properties which allow them to serve as carboxylic acid bioisosteres. In addition they do not exist in nature so are possibly protected from biochemical inactivity. Therefore, tetrazoles have found use in both pharmaceutical and agricultural applications. We are interested in 5-aminotetrazoles that could be readily incorporated into pharmaceutical agents. We are attempting to use our tetrazole technology to prepare possible CNS agents. We plan to present the rationale and some preliminary synthesis data.
