Water hardness determination tests are performed to measure the quality of water that is distributed to the public. Water hardness is determined by calcium and magnesium ion content. In recent history, studies have focused on the effect that calcium and magnesium metals have on public health, infrastructure, and the environment. Our investigation will include the determination of water hardness of the water samples collected from public and residential water supplies, from the Northern New Jersey area. The levels of calcium and magnesium concentration in the water samples will be measured by performing a titration with EDTA. Eriochrome Black T will be used as an indicator.
