Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have dominated portable electronics and electric vehicles as main power source as well as solid-state electrochemical R&D for the past two decades. However due to limitations over the cost and future availability of lithium, sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and other new storage technologies beyond LIB have emerged as candidates for large-scale stationary energy storage. Research in this field has increased dramatically with a focus on the development of new electrode materials that can enhance the cycling stability, rate capability, and energy density. Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials are showing promise for many energy-related applications and particularly for energy storage, because of the efficient ion transport between the layers and the large surface areas available for improved ion adsorption and faster surface redox reactions.<br/><br/>In this talk we will present our latest progress on an emerging class of 2D nanomaterials: porous inorganic nanosheet materials as a promising material platform for efficient alkali-ion storage. We will discuss synthetic strategies for structurally tunable synthesis of these materials and their corresponding electrochemical characteristics for alkali-ion energy storage.
