Conventional lab exercise for colorimetric determination involves a milliliter scales of volumes. It is based on the chemical reactions of nitrite with sulfanilic acid and dihidrochloride of N-(1-naphthyl) ethylenediamine, by nitrate having been first reduced. The determination is usually made with a colorimeter/spectrophotometer. We propose a new downscaled lab exercise which involves microliter scale manipulation, including the reduction step of nitrate to nitrite, the diazotization and coupling steps. Both data acquisitions and evaluations are accomplished with the smart phone. Also results can be detected using identical smart phone. The lab report can be then submitted to the instructor without handing in a hard copy.  Detailed discussion with the instructor can be made.<br/>
