An innovative vacuum ultraviolet photocatalytic oxidation (VUV-PCO) air purifier with nanoporous TiO2 film was designed and constructed with photocatalytic unit, ozone removal unit and radial fan. The performance of the VUV-PCO air purifier for various VOCs removal was investigated in organic glass reactor and actual room. When the ozone removal unit was coal activated carbon (AC), the purifier showed better HCHO and O3 removal efficiency in the reaction of single pollutant, small space and short time. But for degradation of HCHO released by particleboard in sealed room, the removal rate of HCHO was almost the same with Mn-Fe catalyst in no heating case, indicating that HCHO is mainly removed by photocatalytic degradation when a variety of pollutants coexist in actual room. When the ozone removal unit was Mn-Fe catalyst and heated to 80 °C, the decomposition of O3 was increased by 50% compared with no heating case. So the Mn-Fe catalyst with heating condition is an effective way to improve the removal rate of O3 for long-term use. By three times intermittent on / off operation, the purifier was proved to have good stability in the degradation of formaldehyde and better removal efficiency for benzene, toluene, ofm-xylene, ortho-xylene, pentanal, octanal and nonanal. In heating case, with the increase of temperature, the particleboard could be accelerated the release of VOCs. The degradation efficiency for benzene homologues was similar to that of no heating case, indicating that the removal efficiency of benzene homologues was more obvious than that of Aldehyde and Ketone Pollutants. The TVOC in sealed room significantly reduced by the working of purifier. In continuous operation, the concentration of formaldehyde reached a balance in 120min. The purifier has a high removal efficiency of toluene. It is useful to promote the decomposition of O3 by heating and the indoor O3 concentration generally could be stable at 75ppb.
