As the Li-O2 battery system is equipped with open-packing environment, the use of a stable electrolyte is important in the system. Therefore, we designed a gelled quasi-solid-state electrolyte, which contains SiO2 nanoparticles. We forged an organic-inorganic hybrid matrix with a gelled structure respectably so that can acquire a solidified electrolyte with a high discharge capacity and long cyclability. The structure showed high ionic conductivity, thereby enhancing the discharge capacity of the Li-O2 battery. Particularly, the enhanced electrochemical stability of the gelled cathode caused long-term cyclability. And the organic – inorganic hybrid matrix with a gelled structure showed better performance in enhancing the ionic conductivity and long-term cyclability and decreased electrolyte evaporation. Both experimental and DFT simulated results suggest that preferential binding between amorphous SiO2 and polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether (PEGDME) solvent led to the formation of the solidified gelled electrolyte and enhanced stability during cycling, meanwhile enhancing the stability of the quasi-solid state Li-O2 battery.
