Salen ligand has been widely used in coordination chemistry. Metal-salen complexes play vital roles for catalytic, biological, medical and material purposes. We have synthesized and X-structurally characterized a series of anionic mononuclear lanthanide complexes containing chloro-derivative salen ligand. We here present the facile route syntheses of the lanthanide complexes in the general formula of [Ln(salenCl)2]-, and reveal the molecular structure of the anionic terbium complex ion in the form of [Tb(salenCl)2]- .
