Cyanate ester resins (CEs) and networks are characterized by a number of desired properties, including low dielectric constants, high flame retardancy, increased thermal stability, high glass transition temperatures, and improved mechanical strength. As a result this type of material is useful for high performance applications including automotive, biomedical, military, and aerospace technology corridors and is one of the focuses of the Chemistry Research Center at the US Air Force Academy and also in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory, Aerospace Systems Directorate for high temperature resin development. This work will highlight the preparation of CE elastomers from readily available starting materials utilizing hydrosilylation chemistry. The elastomers were fully characterized and the results of these studies will be discussed in detail. Potential applications of the CE elastomers will also be mentioned.
