The chemistry enterprise finds itself in the middle of a movement. Academic, government and industrial research and production facilities are engaged in conversations around the importance of creating strong safety cultures, and many organizations desire the outcomes others have realized when focusing their efforts in this area. That being said, many are surprised by the dedication needed to create true, sustainable change. Safety culture is not a program. It cannot be regulated or mandated. It cannot be centrally managed and deployed through safety officers. It is not a series of systems and processes. Most importantly, lasting change will not be realized from a sprint of activities. It requires full commitment to a journey. Ms. Jeskie has been involved in a number of efforts at the national level and locally at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). She will share insights into ORNL’s journey, the fundamental principles that have guided ORNL’s efforts, and the successes and challenges faces along the way.  She will also discuss the resources made available by several national efforts.<br/>
