Nanoscientists and nanotechnologists have a particular advantage that we have already learned language skills to talk across disciplines and have spent significant efforts in crosstraining our students, staff, colleagues, and ourselves to do so. By identifying refractory problems from our own and other fields, we are able to identify and to target refractory problems, to develop novel approaches, and thereby to identify new intellectual property and entrepreneurship opportunities. While the fields and problems identified in these theme-based discussions are diverse, the skills learned in such exercises apply across them.
