The bicyclic guanidine 1,4,6-triaza-bicyclo[3.3.0]oct-4-ene (Htbo) can be installed on various linkers to form a variety of chelating guanidine ligands. Here we will discuss complexes of the bisguanidinyl ligand 2,6-bis(tbo)pyridine with late first-row metal ions Fe–Zn, as well as the synthesis of related ligands. We will focus on structural comparisons that demonstrate a versatile ligand framework, in additiont to the reactivity of several complexes with oxidants.
