Olefin polymerization and oligomerization often continue to rely on homogeneous catalysts to achieve high selectivity, despite the advantages that solid catalysts hold in terms of catalyst recovery and separation. Our laboratory has identified a family of metal-organic framework catalysts by cation exchange at the nodes of these materials that are highly selective for both of these processes. In this talk, I will explain our recent work on identifying the mechanistic basis of selectivity in this platform. Insight will be provided into how the metal-support interaction influences catalysis, providing a predictive understanding for single-site heterogeneous catalysis with these materials.
