Our lab has developed a class of mono(µ-oxo)-dialuminum (MOD) initiators for epoxide polymerization that offer control of molecular weight, polymer architecture, and tolerance to chemical functionality. The rate of polymerization has been increased by 400-fold while pursuing mechanistically informative structure-kinetic relationships for MOD-initiated epoxide polymerization. In this presentation, mechanistic insight, and versatility of MOD chemistry in the context of new functional materials synthesis will be presented.
