<i>Environmental organic chemistry studies the organic chemical and biochemical phenomena that occur in nature. Photooxidation of environment contaminants is an important process that removes pollutants from the environment. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), munitions (Ms), and aromatic amino-compounds (AACs) are known to be toxic to many life forms, but little is known about their photooxidative products in the environment.</i> <i>We will identify a large number of key photoproducts from major representatives of PAHs, Ms, and AACs in select environmental sectors. The products arise through oxidation reactions involving Active Oxygen Species (AOS).</i>
