The microplastic and PPCPs in aquatic environments has become an increasing global concern over the past decade. Although some reports have the effect of these two contaminants in environmental medium, respectively. Few studies have investigated the co-effects of microplastic and PPCPs on aquatic organism. This study investigated the enantioselective environmental behaviors of the chiral antidepressant venlafaxine and microplastic to loach (M.anguillicaudatus). To determine if the effects of co-contaminants to aquatic organism, the enzymes activities, distribution and metabolism of venlafaxine to loach in the presence of microplastic were set up through a 45-day period. The content of loach liver tissues’ SOD and MDA were changed when exposed to venlafaxine in water. More seriously, microplastic might lead to more adverse effect against loach while the two contaminants were co-exposed. The distribution of venlafaxine and main metabolite O-desmethylvenlafaxine were detected in liver tissue and subcellular. The concentration of venlafaxine and O-desmethylvenlafaxine were lower in water when added microplastic. However, more contaminants were accumulated in liver tissue through the “vehicle” (microplastic). Enantioselective behavior of venlafaxine and O-desmethylvenlafaxine were occurred with S-enantiomers being preferentially degraded. When microplastic was added into water, the bioaccumulation factor (BAF) of venlafaxine and O-desmethylvenlafaxine increased more than 10 times in liver tissue, which indicated contaminants were more persistent. In liver subcellular, microplastic might transport more compounds into mitochondrial and nuclear. The present study is the first to assesses the potential effects of combined pollution in M.anguillicaudatus exposed to VFX and MPs.
