Ionic liquids (ILs) have recently attracted significant interest for applications including lubrication, electrochemistry and a variety of other problems in which they are necessarily in contact with interfaces. The aim of this poster is to discuss patterns of organization of ILs at such interfaces. Several intriguing experimental and computational studies have proposed that the effect of interfaces could extend beyond a couple of layers into the liquid phase. The nature of the IL, whether tails are polar or apolar and the length of tails on cations and anions may play a role on this. Here we present results on different ILs including apolar and more polar ether-containing tails as well as symmetric vs asymmetric cationic and anionic tails at interfaces.
