Calix[4]pyrroles are tetrapyrrolic macrocycles that are capable of undergoing a conformational change in the presence of strongly coordinating anions. This conformational switching allows for information storage and readout. It also permits the formation of complexes with different molecular and macromolecular oligomers, and discrete molecular systems. Electron rich calix[4]pyrrole derivatives are of particular interest in the construction of higher order self-assembled products. Within them, conformational switching and donor-acceptor interactions can be used to control the flow and direction of electron transfer, as well as downstream chemistry. Calix[4[pyrroles bearing ancillary coordination sites permit orthogonal interactions, including metal-ligand binding, to be exploited to create systems with multiple accessible states. In this presentation work designed to exploit the versatility of calix[4]pyrroles in the creation of molecular containers and logic devices will receive particular emphasis.<br/><br/>
