The goal of the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) Chemistry Club is to ignite interest about chemistry and to help bridge the gap between college and the next chapter in students’ chemistry careers. The Chemistry Club has worked to improve community outreach, membership participation, and university service. In 2017-18 we took 31 volunteers to the Regional Food Bank, and planned and hosted a Science Saturday event for pre-college students in conjunction with the Upward Bound organization. Participation at meetings was significantly increased by focusing on fun chemistry demonstrations, including Halloween-themed demos, Alka-Seltzer rockets, and crystals constructed for National Chemistry Week. Speakers for club meetings are chosen from a variety of fields and work areas in order to increase awareness of what you can do with a chemistry degree. The Chemistry Club took part in UCO’s 2017 Earth Day Celebration by helping students make their own tie-dye t-shirts. During UCO’s Back-to-School Bash, Club students offered Chemistry Department tours to potential chemistry majors. Students are notified of Chemistry Club events through flyers, social media, and through UCO’s Org Sync Chemistry Club page.<br/>
