The efficiency and efficacy of a catalytic process involving an organic synthesis is greatly influenced by the structure of the active catalytic species generated in the cycle. Hence the structure of the pre-catalyst and how it is getting activated to the “real catalyst” is very important. A few examples highlighting the importance of these observations from Pd and Ir catalyzed process will be discussed in the presentation.
