Gas chromatography-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) determination of selected phenolic endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs): bisphenol A (BPA), 4-nonylphenol (NP) and 4-<i>tert</i>-octylphenol (OP) in surface water and sediment samples of the New Calabar River, Nigeria was done followed by ecological risk assessment. Varied concentrations were recorded for the compounds. One hundred percent detection frequency was observed for BPA. The ecological risk assessment revealed some aquatic organisms may be at risk as hazard quotients on some cases were above 1, except for OP. Prioritized monitoring of the investigated EDCs as well as other emerging contaminants is highly recommended.
