Development of statistics laboratory experiments for analytical chemistry has always been a challenge. Measuring objects, such as pennies and candy, processing data, and doing pre-labs on standard textbook questions was providing satisfactory knowledge enough to move the students forward in the chemistry program. This approach however became increasingly detached from the needs of the millennial generation and their natural connection with technology. In addition, the relationship with any practical application remained rather imaginary.<br/>The experiments discussed in this presentation provided students with the opportunity to answer real life questions about health disparities, air and water quality, and pesticide level in the environment. Specific assignments were given to each group and students were directed to the databases on the National Cancer Institute and Environmental Protection Agency sites. They were required to create spreadsheets and develop a plan for using appropriate statistical tools in order to complete the task. EXCEL, MATHCAD, and data imaging software were used in the experiments. At the end of the project each group evaluated the work of another group and the best project was selected for presentation at the upcoming annual Florida ACS (FAME 2018) meeting in Innisbrook, FL.
