Flow chemistry has many advantages over batch chemistry in scale up of reactions. We had previously developed a stereoselective aldol/epoxidation reaction, which was operationally difficult and resisted our efforts to scale up in a batch process. Switching to a flow process significantly simplified the reaction procedure and allowed for much easier scale up. In this presentation we will describe the flow process used for the aldol/epoxidation reaction, provide an overview of the chemistry of the aldol/epoxidation product, and provide preliminary toxicological data for the compounds we prepared.
