The chemical versatility of prepared maleimidobenzoxazine compounds was introduced by unlocking the possibility to choose between different phenolic reactants. At this time maleimidobenzoxazines are in the main prepared from hydroxyphenylmaleimide (HMPI) which is reflected in the lack of chemical versatility of prepared maleimidobenzoxazines. The phenolic versatility was achieved by utilization of aminomaleimide compound in the reaction path. In doing so several novel maleimidobenzoxazines were synthesized and their properties were studied and further compared to already known maleimidobenzoxazines and traditional anilinobenzoxazines. The curing behaviour of prepared maleimidobenzoxazines was investigated by DSC analysis and mechanical properties by DMA analysis. Novel maleimidobenzoxazines showed similar properties comparing to the already presented in the literature showing high glass transition temperature (<i>T</i><sub>g</sub>) values over 240 °C (Fig. 1). The curing behaviour of maleimidobenzoxazines consisted of overlapped peaks associated to autocatalytic nature at lower temperature and radical polymerization of maleimide C=C bounds at higher temperature. Also, the effects of impurities on the curing behaviour of maleimidobenzoxazines was explained. Thermogravimetric analysis proved improved thermal stability of maleimidobenzoxazines compared to anilinobenzoxazines. The improved thermal and mechanical properties and enhanced thermal stability compared to traditional anilinobenzoxazines proved the accurate classification as high-performance materials. Novel maleimidobenzoxazines were prepared with the focus on performing Diels-Alder reaction as a possible trigger for self-healing application in thermoset materials.
