The technology enabling many commonly used reactions to now be run in an environmentally responsible fashion is here, offering the chemistry community an alternative to the unsustainable way in which we currently practice modern organic synthesis. This technology addresses three key reaction parameters: the choice of solvent, the conditions, and the (typically) transition metal catalyst. Using a designer surfactant in water, reactions can be done at rates that are comparable to, or better than those in organic media, afford as good or better results (yields, selectivities, etc.), and <i>always</i> lead to far more cost-effective processes than those using traditional approaches. Additional, new (unpublished) examples of how such green chemistry can be used to great advantage will be presented, focusing on several types of bond constructions (C-C, C-O, C-H, etc.).
