One of the challenges for meeting the growing needs of supplying hydrogen to a refueling station is how to transport and deliver hydrogen economically at low pressures and ambient temperatures and provide a mechanism to supply high pressure hydrogen (700 bar) to a FCEV.   Hydrogen release from formic acid (FA), 53 g H2/liter, is exergonic but endothermic, providing an opportunity to deliver hydrogen as a liquid at ambient temperature and pressure, but generating high pressure hydrogen by 'chemical compression.'  The advantages and challenges of using FA to deliver hydrogen to refueling stations will be discussed.
