The goal of this initiative is to educate the community on the interconnectedness of energy, food and water sustainability as we seek to reduce the community’s exposure to environmental toxics. It emphasizes the importance of the community adopting sustainable lifestyles as we seek to build healthy, sustainable, and resilient communities. A combination of discussion and hands on activities were utilized. The participants ranged in age from six to ninety years old. The program being discussed covers some of the key considerations needed to adopt a behavior that supports: Reduced use/exposure to toxic chemicals(consideration of impacts of chemicals and materials throughout their life cycle). Chemical/Materials Alternatives Assessment and development of green materials/products. Sustainable Production and Consumption. Sustainable use of natural resources/waste reduction. More sustainable energy choices, energy efficiency/conservation. More sustainable uses of water/ sustainable food production. Community preparedness/Resliency needed for climate change impacts including health impacts of climate change.
