Quantum-dot- sensitized solar cells have gained growing attention as an alternative to existing photovoltaic technologies. In this research, cadmium sulfide (CdS) and cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanoparticles with varying stabilizing shell were successfully synthesized, thus providing them with hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties. The as-synthesized nanoparticles with those properties were studied by SEM, DLS, and FT-IR analysis. Aqueous suspension of the hydrophilic nanoparticles was used for band gap evaluations and photocatalytic activity studies in the presence of methylene blue with UV-Vis spectroscopy. It is concluded that the synthesized nanoparticles catalyzed the degradation process of methylene blue under the UV light irradiation. Hydrophobic nanoparticles were spread onto the free aqueous interface of the Langmuir trough with subsequent Langmuir-Blodgett transfer on the ITO surface. Photoelectrochemistry of such layers were<br/>then studied in relation to the number of transferred layers, and compared to the drop-cast nanoparticle samples. The results showed the current density increases as the number of the transferred layers increases.
