Bearing an empty p orbital, neutral boranes have demonstrated various reactivities as Lewis acids. Accordingly, numerous researches on enhancing the Lewis acidity by adding positive charge to the boron have also been reported. On the other hand, the chemistry of compounds possessing two boron centers has also been well-established, while the understanding of cationic diborane is relatively scarce. As our long-term interest in cationic boron species, we would like to explore the fundamentals of cationic diborane compound. Preliminary investigation on the cationic diborane systems with rigid molecular backbones will be disclosed in the poster. In addition to the cationic molecules, studies on unsymmetrical diborane(4) families will also be discussed.
