Shell thickness of hollow polymeric nanocapsules can influence a number of vital attributes such as mechanical stability, rigidity, degradation kinetics, shell permeability etc. While shell thickness can be varied by a number of means, our group has shown that thiol-ene photopolymerization of a resorcinarene cavitand thiol with monomers containing varying number of alkene groups led to the formation of nanocapsules with varying shell thickness and rigidities in the absence of any template or surfactant. This poster will describe the photopolymerization of resorcinarene cavitand thiols containing OH and COOH groups with 1,9-decadiene, 1,3,5-triallyl-1,3,5-triazinane-2,4,6-trione and a tetraalkene resorcinarene cavitand. Further, the influence of these functional groups on critical parameters such as morphology and solubility among others will also be described.
