In our search for efficient molecular receptors for fullerenes, we are pursuing the synthesis of a tridental molecular receptor 1 through a Diels-Alder reaction followed by dehydration using para-Toluenesulfonic acid. Density functional calculations predict very high binding constants for both C60@1 and C70@1.
