Educators like us know that students learn better and faster when they are actively engaged and participating in activities that create learning opportunities along the way. Integrating digital media such as videos or film clips with classroom technology is a great vehicle for student engagement. The use of videos to enhance teaching and learning complements traditional approaches to learning. Effective instruction builds bridges between students' knowledge and the learning objectives of the course. Using videos and film clips results in engagement of students, improvement of student rentention of knowledge and generation of interest in the subject matter. In this presentation, the use of film clips from movies as examples to illustrate concepts in chemistry heightens the students’ interests. They find it amusing and entertaining making learning more fun during lecture. This presentation provides references to different chemical concepts that have been directly or indirectly discussed in several movies. In addition, instructional videos to show students how to conduct the experiment in an Analytical Chemistry laboratory course were developed and used. The effectiveness of using videos that undergraduate students could view before conducting their experiments was examined to be effective with a positive response from students enjoying the visual impact. As a result, the instruction time on how to perform the experiment was significantly shortened, thereby allowing more laboratory time to teach students the proper skills and techniques that they need to acquire.
