The recent explosion of interest in haloperovskite and related materials for photovoltaics and brightly luminescent colloidal nanocrystals has identified new challenges and opportunities for broadening the palette of accessible functional inorganic nanomaterials, including in the areas of non-toxic materials and full-periodic-table doping capability. This talk will describe some recent results from our laboratories pertaining to the physical and chemical characteristics of well-known lead haloperovskite nanocrystals (<i>e.g.</i>, CsPbX<sub>3</sub>, X = Cl, Br, I) when doped with impurity ions. This talk will also present some recent advances that build upon these chemistries to access new lead-free nanocrystals with visible band-gap energies and rich compositional flexibility. Various aspects of composition control, doping, and spectroscopy in these new materials will be discussed.
